When Woodhouse’s scrub jays are spotted with blue jays, they might be mistaken for one.
They have a paler underbelly and are equally blue in colour, with the upper portion of their bodies being more blue than the blue jay’s white underside.
They also have the same tail length, white throat, and breast brand.
They do not, however, have the black facial markings or the conspicuous crest of the blue jay.
The woodhouse’s scrub jay, once known as the California scrub jay, prefers to reside in low-lying scrub regions, oak woodlands, the margins of mixed forests, and boreal and temperate forests.
They are usually observed to the west of the rocky mountains in the south.
